Today the East Portland Chamber of Commerce wants to recognize one our newest members for her contribution not only to the chamber, but also to the local business scene.
Kristin Schuchman, owner of Mixed Media, a marketing business, joined the chamber in April of this year. She quickly became active in the chamber, participating in weekly meetings, writing for the chamber’s website blog and attending the chamber’s marketing meetings.
To learn more about Kristin and her current and past business experience, I turned to a good source: her husband. Here is what he has to say:
“Kristin has a Masters in Journalism from University of Iowa. She has extensive experience with print media and marketing communications. She moved to Portland in 1998, and founded Nervy Girl Magazine in 1999. Nervy Girl received an UTNE Reader Award for Best New Title in the alternative press in 2000. After Nervy Girl ran its course, Kristin joined the MS Society of Oregon, where she did a stint as their Marketing Communications Director.
In 2004, she left the MS Society and founded Mixed Media, LLC – a marketing communications consulting firm that helps small businesses develop an integrated marketing strategy leveraging traditional print media and new media (i.e. The Internet). Kristin has leveraged her writing skills to support area non-profits with freelance grant writing services, and has also worked with area business associations to create business directories and walking maps that are funded with a combination of business development grants and private funds. Her tagline – “Say what you mean…” conveys the essence of her service – helping business owners communicate the value of their products and services to their target market.”
As for what I know about Kristin and her businesses, I remember reading Nervy Girl when I first moved to Portland in 2000. It had great articles by a variety of writers, fun graphics and great info and ads. It helped me feel a part of the Portland scene.
Mixed Media, Kristin’s current venture, is a continuation of Kristin’s interest in marketing, graphic design, writing, editing and outreach. She is an asset both to the chamber and the Portland business scene. Congratulations Kristin on behalf of all of us at the East Portland Chamber.

Kristin’s service is especially good for the non-profit or company that does not have “story writing” skills. I highly recommend that those needing correctly written stories, press releases, or similar services visit with Kristin to see how her truely professional service could be of benefit to them and their client base.
