Metro Councilor Shirley Craddick will be covering the following transportation topics:

  • Division BRT Update
  • Powell Blvd transit improvement status
  • East Portland TOD projects
  • Natural Areas Update (East County focused)
  • Transportation Legislation Outlook 2017

Councilor Craddick came into office with a set of goals for District 1 that she will work to achieve throughout her time as Metro Councilor. Her goals center on increasing economic prosperity in the eastern part of the region while protecting natural areas and the environment, increasing jobs, and fostering vibrant and active town centers. She would also like to see District 1 have an enhanced voice at the regional table and help jurisdictions work together to achieve their aspirations.

Shirley will serve as lead Metro Councilor for the East Metro Connections study where she will help her district prioritize a set of transportation projects that will contribute to each jurisdiction's economic development aspirations. She will also be working on the continued development of the Intertwine, the region's integrated network of natural areas, parks and trails. In her capacity as Metro Councilor she serves on the Metro Policy Advisory Committee as well as the Oregon Zoo Foundation Board, Nature in Neighborhoods capital grants selection committee, the Travel Portland board, and several other committees.

Craddick served as a Gresham city councilor from 2004 to 2010. She is a retired registered dietitian and health researcher, serving at Kaiser Permanente's Center for Health Research for almost 33 years. During her tenure, she was involved in the design and implementation of multi-site behavioral clinical trials funded by the National Institutes of Health. She is an author and co-author of scientific articles and books regarding the relationship of diet and cardiovascular disease.
