Oregon’s Pioneering Spirit: Navigating Employment Laws after the Oregon 2019 Legislative Session and recent Federal Law Changes

Kyle Abraham, Attorney at Barran Liebman LLP, represents employers in both traditional labor and employment law matters. In his presentation to the Chamber, Kyle will cover the major points that employers need to be aware of:

  • 1.     Oregon’s Pay Equity Law
  • 2.     Ramifications for employers from the Maza v. Waterford Operations, Ltd. Liability. Co. court ruling regarding 30 minute meal period required
  • 3.     Fair Labor Standards Act Exempt Salary Threshold and choices employers have to work with the new threshold for overtime
  • 4.     HB 2005 Family and Medical Leave Insurance

and more as time permits.

Kyle’s labor practice includes negotiating collective bargaining agreements, advising on contract administration issues, and representing employers before labor arbitrators, the National Labor Relations Board, and the Oregon Employment Relations Board.  In his employment law practice, Kyle is an experienced litigator who has successfully represented clients before U.S. circuit and district courts, Oregon and Washington state courts, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Oregon’s Bureau of Labor and Industries, and other state and federal agencies.

Kyle leverages his experience to help employers anticipate and resolve problems at the earliest possible stage and in a cost-effective manner, with the confidence and capability to defend employers if the matter escalates to litigation.  Additionally, Kyle is a trained and experienced workplace investigator, and he regularly conducts investigations into allegations of employee misconduct, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, or other sensitive issues.

All non-profit organizations are especially encouraged to have their management and HR administrators attend this meeting. Kyle teaches classes at Portland State for continuing education credits so this meeting will be geared to help our members get the most information they can. He will be fielding questions from the audience so if you have a burning issue you’d like his opinion on please join us on Jan. 8th.
